Your Style: PVS or HYS |
PVS
(Pneumatic/Air/Light Hydraulic)
PVS Style Self-Locking Cylinders are commonly used
for applications using air. Often the PVS model replaces
or substitutes for more costly hydraulic systems. The
solid metal-on-metal lock allows for high loading without
the "squish" associated with standard air cylinders. |
HYS
(Heavy Hydraulic)*
HYS Style Self-Locking Cylinders are commonly used
for applications where high moving forces are required.
HYS is the perfect choice in applications which are critical
under loss-of-pressure scenarios. |

Accommodation
of Locking Clearance / Overtravel
To
ensure locking, the cylinders allow for 0.004" to 0.013"
of overtravel (end play) beyond the lock seating position. When
pressure is removed or load applied after a locked condition
is achieved the rod will move until the clearance is taken up.
The overtravel clearance can be eliminated by careful positioning
of the cylinder. Consult a PFA Applications Specialist for details.
*
Heavy Hydraulic Style may be operated pneumatically in some
applications. Consult PFA for details.
**Cylinder
locking/holding force is a function of rod column strength
and depends on overall stroke length and proper load guidance/installation.
***Maximum
pressure for PVS units is 1500 psi or 1000 psi depending on
size (see grey area limits in chart), Maximum pressure for
HYS units is 3000 psi.

| Mounting
Styles |

MF1
Front Flange
The
Front Flange Mount offers 4 mounting through holes
to provde a means of simple installation with a face
mount.
Cushions
Optional
adjustable cushions are available at both ends of
cylinders stroke to slow down prior to end of stroke
for process control.
Option
Locations
Ports,
Sensors and Cushions can be positioned on any of
4 sides of the cylinder. While they can be on any
side, no two options can be at the same location
on the same end of the cylinder.
MF2
Rear Flange Mount
MF2
Mount provides the same simple interface as the MF1
with the convenience of a rear location.
MP1
Rear Clevis
The
MP1 Rear Clevis offers a rear pivot mount for applications
requiring dynamic positioning.
MS2
Foot Mount
The
MS2 Foot mount provides a means of flush or table-top
mounting via 4 feet along the body of the unit.
MS4
Bottom Tapped
The
MS4 Bottom Tapped mount allows for direct mount to
a flat surface via bolting through that surface into
4 tapped holes in the cylinder body.
MT1
Front Trunion
The
MT1 Front Trunion provides a means of mounting on
a front pivot point via two trunion pins on either
side of the front head of the cylinder.
Sensors
The
Sensors offer positioning and locking verification.
The front or locking sensor detects the locking mechanism
after it engages. Since the lock cannot engage unless
full forward stroke is achieved, the front sensor
serves to verify both the forward stroke and lock
conditions. The rear sensor detects the piston upon
full retraction. Click for sensor tech sheet.
